《Space Program For Artistic Use: Lunar Landing Obj.001》

“<Lunar Landing Obj.001>, a comprehensive printmaking, using a skill of combining both silkscreen printing and digital printmaking, presents on etching paper at the Hane Muller Museum. This work of art is actually a small episode in the "Space Program For Artistic Use", which was born out of the first two drafts. This group of triptychs focuses more on my emotions and attitudes. The "fork" symbol appears by coincidence in the first two drafts, without any logic. At that time, I was at that stage of my life without feeling my ego or guilt. I didn’t know what I want, let alone how to get what I "want". This also directly leads to the burst of instincts and desires according to the situation, then the form of "red crosses" just showing up. When I calmed down and carefully analyzed this coincidence, I had a deeper understanding of a postmodern conscious characteristic, which is the ambiguity between dreams and reality. It makes me feel even more realistic because of this precisely illogicality. When human consciousness entered the postmodern era, people's main emotion was more of an "anxiety". The moon landing plan is not about the Moon, but an ideal utopia. And "red cross" is the most intense rationality added at the end of my desperate romance.” ——Qi Dong Cui

Qidong Cui is a young printmaker from Shenyang, Liaoning Province. He graduated from the Printmaking Department of Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts, and then went to Alfred Ceramic College of State University of New York to exchange and study. Now he is an independent artist. The inspiration of his works always revolves around the exploration of the unknown universe and the pursuit of the meaning of life. The artistic language is changeable and the sense of form is strong. He tried to use art to solve practical problems, and tried to use art to propose some new ways of thinking for life, but the results were often absurd, pedantic, and self-entertaining. Because art creation can not solve any practical problems except the metaphysical needs of artists themselves, and what we can only leave is emptiness and helplessness. His works stripped away the excessive "banter" and "play" in contemporary art, so as to find the "sacred sense" of contemporary shelf art. His representative works include the series of "Space Program for Artistic Use", the series of "Frivolois Ensemble", and the series of "There is no El DORADO".

About the exhibition
Art is a language that doesn’t need translation. For a long time, art has played an important role in the communication between China and other countries. In the context of economic globalization, cultures from all over the world collide and fuse with each other, forming a multi-cultural network. Chinese culture and various cultures of other countries meet here, forming a strong and diverse artistic atmosphere As globalization makes the cultural and artistic exchanges between countries more frequent and more closely connected, the optimization of the international artistic ecological environment also provides new opportunities for the evolution of art. Art is enriched by exchanges and mutual learning; the development of art requires international exchanges and cooperation, the active participation of artists from all countries, the sharing of ideas, the collision of hearts and the blending of emotions.This initiative is hosted by the Sino-Canada Alliance of Arts and Culture,York University Centre for Asian Research, Sensorium: Centre for Digital Arts and Technology, the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts gallery, and the School of Visual Communication Design of LAFA, with funds from the Canada-China Initiative Grant from York Centre for Asian Research, and Double first-class project approved by Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. The exhibition showcases outstanding works of art by young artists from all over the world, strengthens exchanges between artists from all over the world, and promotes the "beauty of each other and the beauty of the other" in Chinese and foreign cultures. By supporting art exchange activities between international artists , promoting the understanding of the different national cultures, and breaking through group and language barriers, we aim to achieve more commonality between people, creating communication, understanding,and fusion,thereby further optimizing the ecological environment,new opportunities for the artistic.This exhibition shows the vitality of the interdependence and common development of Chinese culture and the world civilization, promotes the pace of Chinese art to the world, and has a positive impact on promoting the inheritance and development of Chinese culture and strengthening the international exchange of Chinese culture. After the exhibition committee’s review, a total of 47 artists from 43 regions in the world have been selected into the "Crossing Time Zones·2022 China-Canada-Australia Emerging Artists Communication Exhibition".
